But back to gas taxes.....

Scandinavia= almost a pure socialistic model integrated into reality.
Sweeden and Finland are more socialistic compared with Norway. Norway had the benefit of a stronger economy due to commodities and oil.
I have 50% Norwegian heritage and have some distant relatives who still live there.
I still am very glad to live right here in the US, though

I was just up at the State House, today, and it looks like the Legislature is likely to raise the tolls, again. Worse, they are likely to add more tolls--and there have been questions about the EZ Pass system, which is still losing money. I proposed a simpler system--a kind of Convenient Pass, where drivers simply pay a little extra to go through an EZ Pass lane, then have the bill ($3 each time used) paid when you go to renew your tags. This would raise a lot of money, improve traffic flow, and cost almost nothing to implement, since it just uses the existing infrastructure.

"there have been questions about the EZ Pass system, which is still losing money."

did they settle anything? I heard they were going to do away with the 30% discount for having a pass. I also heard they wanted to propose putting a chip in everyone's car and charging by the mile.....

sounds like Star Trek.

That chip they want to put in to the inspection sticker to track every mile people drive is being proposed by Massahusetts so it can keep track of its slaves, sorry, I mean its "citizens."

MA has wanted to install transponder chips since 2007...not surprised the plan is still on the table. I would think there would be privacy issues if it was ever taken seriously.

Who wants big brother to know where we are at all times??? although, the reality is, if you carry a cell phone, they already know.

These chips Mass wants to to install are not for the toll-roads.....they are for everyday driving around. Every mile, everyplace, at all times. If you dive 100 miles a day to work they want to charge you a tax by the mile ! Go on a long vacation....they tax you by the mile. Want to run out to the 24 hour store a few miles away....they tax you. Lol, move your car in the diveway, yup, you're taxed.

Tracking mileage certainly would be the ultimate pay as you go tax. What could be more fair you ask? Passenger car use pays nothing and commercial use pays for the wear and tear they put on the roads. That would be fair.

As far as carrying a chip in my license is concerned I do not care if big Brother is watching. If I decide to do something illegal big brother will be watching a license chip in my desk drawer or on somebody elses car.

Just keep adding tax after tax right Greg? History has shown that overbearing governments end up pushing to far. The United States is no exception to the rule of a government life cycle.

The Massachusetts state government is already at the point where it's sole existence is take money from it's subjects to keep it running.

History WILL repeat it self, it's not a matter of IF it's a matter of WHEN.
