Can anyone tell me about dog walking/walking with the dogs in NH please. I'm not talking about around the the suburban block, no. More along the lines of rural areas, conservation lands, state parks - that type of thing. Snowshoeing with your dogs on a bright winters day, or taking a long, long walk to see the fall colours. Is it a series of strict leash laws or is there just a common accepted practice based on common sense and a strong sense of responsibility of ownership - i.e. owner understands and appreciates that not everyone likes dogs.

As for clean-up - one could hope that goes without saying or legislating. Dreams are free.

I've taken my dogs with me everywhere. I always have a leash with me but they run alongside of me without it.

the only place I've heard that is restricted is the Rhododendron state park in Fitzwilliam.

many towns, even rural ones like Hollis and New Ipswich (and probably Brookline) have leash laws. How enforced they are....

I know when my mom's or my sister's dogs get loose and run, the neighbors usually call and let someone know where they are.

the leash law is statewide, the enforcement is negligible.

New Hampshire Leash Law

It is unlawful for any dog to run at large in New Hampshire, except (1) when the dog is accompanied by its owner or a custodian; or (2) where the dog is being used for, or being trained for, hunting, herding, or supervised competition and exhibition.

State parks are on a individual basis

Ditto - I never care if a dog never learns anything else, but a dog must come back 100+10% of the time when called.

Many thanks for all the info and links.

Default Short-haired, no undercoat

Does anyone have a short-haired without an undercoat type dog? How does it fare in the cold?

As much as I hate the concept of dressing dogs, I do have two that feel the cold acutely. Any recommendations for "outerwear" - especially anything that doesn't rub or restrict movement across the chest for a deep-chested breed.

I have a dog whose teeth actually chatter when she gets cold enough (and it doesn't take much).

Many thanks

something out of a lined polar fleece? Polar fleece is lovely stuff - stretchy too, but unlined it's not terribly warm. Line it with something else stretchy (maybe a cotton lycra or maybe even spandex) and it should be pretty warm and not restrict any movements.

Thanks Wanna. I've seen some things made from neoprene and wondered if it worked/insulated/was effective. It's not cheap, so I'd love some feedback first. (I'm not looking for cheap, but I am looking for effective.)
