I have just accepted a new job in Derry, and will be moving from Calif. in May. Need suggestions/opinions/advice on where to live. I am a single mom with 2 kids, ages 9 & 12, so good schools and safe neighborhoods are top priority. I currently commute 40 minutes each way to work on Calif's famous "death alley" Hwy 46. This is extremely stressful on a daily basis, so I am looking for a shorter commute time, or at least a safer road with the new job and new home. We are a quiet "square" family and DON'T need shopping malls, restaurants, or convenience stores. We currently rent a 3 bdrm. house with a yard, and have 3 cats. Is there any place somewhere near Derry that we would fit in and feel "at home"? Thanks so much!

You might want to try Derry, they have a good high school, Pinkerton Academy, or right next to derry is Londonderry. A few more town near by are Litchfield, and also merrimack and bedford. Look them up, Merrimack and bedford are nicer than derry and londonderry but they are all decent. Good luck. They are close for commuting to work and all are still close to shopping and malls and only 35 to 40 minutes to the ocean and 45 minutes to boston(the big city).
