Lol, I know you're not that paranoid; but in looking this stuff up you'd be amazed how many people are!!!

Personally I don't think a full on "smart grid" will make it to NH anytime soon- we don't have the population density to make it worthwhile. Likewise we don't have the huge up/down demand of many other areas. That said I could see remotely read meters coming to town...I can't imagine how much time it takes the meter readers to do their job in my area- my neighbor has a 2000+ foot driveway!!!

But this probably belongs in the 'politics and controversies' thread. It is not my intention to make the NH mods nervous. I knew that national grid is doing the smart grid pilot, and when I saw their trucks around thought I would post here hoping to get more local info...
Nobody is going to "ration" you. You know how your power is controlled? By you, baseline load, and the price. I know when I was living in CA, there was a "baseline" consumption. At or below 120 percent of baseline, it was one price. Anything from 120-200 percent of baseline, it went up by 50 percent, and above 200 percent, was upwards of 19 cents/kwh.

Also, smart metering helps limit peak usage.

All I can say about National Grid is I live in Upstate NY

and National Grid enjoys the highest rates and fees any where That I know of.

The fees we pay National Grid for Electricity are 800% higher than Localy owned and operated Electric Companies.

When National Grid comes to town Hang on to your wallet.

They are very Good at working over any commission or board you
have to protect you from rip Offs.

Example: Solvay Electric Has 5,300 customers and charges 3.1 cents per killowatt Hour of electricity.

National Grid Charges $20.00 per Month so you can buy National Grids Power. Then They Charge 13.8 Cents Per killowatt Hour of power used.
Then They Charge 8.8 cents per killowatt hour for delivery.

Oh yes and National Grid last year Gave the CEO of National Grid
a 60% pay Increase which amounted to about $2,400,000.00
a year increase in his pay. Quite a trick in last years enonomy.
HU!

So National Grid is Smart ok or at least Greedy.

Most of our plants, mills, and Factories have been shut down
Thanks to National Grid energy Management Plan.

When National Grid moves into town your future movies out.

Good Luck or stop Them Now.
