I know a good deal of hunters who do just that actually, many actually learn some traditional ways of giving thanks; all part of experiencing the woodlands...

What a cool bunch of people there are on this board. If I had posted my comments on a hunter's forum in NJ I would have been skewered and flamed like a veggie kabob. Another reason we love NH...

GregW: First and foremost, thank you for your service to our country! I can't even imagine witnessing the horrible things you must have seen but I'm glad your were able to gain compassion from your experiences.

JViello: thanks for giving it to me straight - I was looking for honesty and got it. But just to set the record straight, not all of NJ is ugly and crappy... just the bad parts . Also, I'd like to have a little piece of the utopia you speak of right here on earth - even if it's just in my own backyard.

BF66389: You totally get what I was trying to convey. Thank you! It's also good to hear that many hunters up there are thankful for what they kill. I've always had a deep admiration for Native Americans and the way they lived off the land. Maybe if I view hunting in NH the same way I can learn to cope better.

They had wounded it before I got there and I killed it with a head shot.

Then a great feeling of remorse and guilt hit me. I asked myself "Why did you kill the poor thing? It wasn't trying to kill you like so many VC tried." My response was, "No good reason except to put it out of misery."

That is when I stopped hunting and pretty much stopped killing anything that was not biting me. I was, and still am, tired of killing.

Hunt if you must or want but please offer thanks to the creatures you are killing. They deserve that.
I offer thanks for everything, I don't hunt..not my thing, but I surely understand those that do. Sport hunting should be illegal though.

This is exactly the type of info I was looking for. We need to be prepared about what to expect when we move there.

Choosing another state is not really an option - NH is our dream state and we won't rest until we can call the place "home". But we do realize that no place is perfect. In our picture of a perfect world no living thing would be harmed or killed and Bambi wouldn't be shot and have her head hung on a wall. But that is not reality.

Aptor Hours thank you for sharing my views. However, Valerie C is right; meat bought at the grocery store most likely came from an animal that was inhumanely raised and killed. As much as I dislike hunting, it is a far better way for the animal to live and die, provided that the kill was swift and he/she didn't linger in pain. There is plenty of youtube footage about factory farming and slaughterhouse horrors. But again, I do share your feelings about not wanting to see bodies hanging from trees and the GPS thing.

BF66389, thank you for understanding . Although I have seen hunting images on the internet and am not completely naive to it. Again, I am an animal lover, truly love them with all my heart, and it just ruins my day to see them harmed. That's my biggest obstacle about moving to the mountains in NH.

Ah, another topic for discussion that I will need to post sooner or later... where to shop for vegetarian and vegan specialty foods in NH. Currently we're very spoiled because we have a Whole Foods within a 15 minute drive. Me thinks that will not be the case in mountains.

Glad to hear there is another vegan (or mostly vegan) in town. It's good to know that DH and I won't be all alone up there.

Littleton Consumer Cooperative Society, Inc., Littleton NH

Also Shaws in Littleton has a great Wild Harvest section!

The Healthy Rhino on Main Street in Littleton NH is also a very nice little store as well.

Well I can say at least your putting your actions with your speak. (For the most part.) I have to respect that.

Just remember - leave me alone and I'll leave you alone and don't try to legislate your opinions/beliefs on me and I won't on you. Let the government protect the border and deliver the mail.
