but if they were legal, then there would be less need for that particular law enforcement or judicial system involvement. At least with prostitution, the best thing would be for them to set up their own licensing board to oversee them - much the way nurses, physical therapists, doctors, chiropractors and massage therapists do. We pay our dues to cover the costs. It's annoying, but it keeps the profession 'professional'. and that way it's not a burden to the average tax payer and no longer needs the law/judicial system. The legalizing marijuana... well, that would just cut down on the enforcement costs. Unless of course the state wanted to take it over as a monopoly like liquor - state owned pot fields!!! well, it would create jobs, lol!

You are exactly right, Wanna. This illustrates exactly why I do not support government sponsorship of anything outside of protecting our borders, (regaining) our sovereignty and strengthening our national defense and little else etc.

*Anything* the gov't. touches costs us. I am as freedom loving as they come, but promoting US or even state government sponsorship of **activities people have actively participated in throughout time and around the planet regardless of whether or not they were 'restricted' **(have laws really prevented us from doing xyz if we really want to?), creates costly micromanagement as they become overseen and regulated. The next step? Freedom lovers rally against the next level of government intrusion, gov't comes up with another 'solution' more regulations, more spending.

It is funny, it has always seemed to me it is the people who claim to hate regulation of affairs who lack the foresight to see how they create more regulation and spending. Just like children who cannot see past the desire for immediate gratification in order to see the consequences.

While morals should not be established or promoted by gov't sponsorship means - we have that very effect if gambling, prostitution, etc. are sponsored by gov't. A standard is affected, which is probably not even obvious to those seeking immediate gratification and forsaking freedom down the line.

You are asking the wrong person about education. I am in favor of closing the Dept. of Education completely.

You and me both. Half of every state budget goes to education. HALF.

The government can't deliver letters without losing 12 billion dollars a year, they surely are doing just as well with the public education system.
