Hello,

My fiancee and I are looking to move apartments in Dover and I think we've been very lucky with our current apartment's winter heating costs (often under $40/month) and I was wondering if anyone had any rough estimates on how much it would be to heat a small 2-story condo with natural gas each month? The condo is in the middle of 4 units, so it only has 2 sides facing the outside. I've heard everything from $50/month to $200/month.

Thanks!

I don't have my bills in front of me to give you the exact numbers, but I can tell you I was shocked at how low my bill has been with National Grid. Our previous house had an oil furnace and our costs worked out to 250 or more in the winter, and we were pretty careful about using the heat. The highest bill I've yet had at the new house was 170, and that was during a very cold month last year, and my roommate was working 3rd shift, so the heat was almost always on since somebody was always up. That also included running our range and oven, water heater and dryer. Plus our house isn't really that well insulated, and we aren't particularly careful about how much heat we're using. It's also nice because you pay every month, rather than getting hit with a 600+ bill to fill up your tank all at once (though I know this can be avoided by planning your oil buying carefully though).

Default Natural Gas

Just to give you something to compare...

We live in Dover...modest 2100sq ft single family cape. We use natural gas for heat, hot water, cooking, and gas clothes dryer. We are on a budget plan with Unitil for $160/month

Hope that helps!
