I grew up in South Jersey, and am back now as an adult, looking into the various towns and communities around the area. I've been away for a few years, and have been looking for something here, but I'm not really sure where to find it.
What I'm looking for is the strongest sense of community and place. A town where people are proud of where they live and know their neighbors and engage with them in daily life. Essentially, a place where people don't move in and out every few years, and you can become close to the people who live in your area. Does anyone know where this might exist in my native South Jersey? I grew up in Mount Laurel, and would like to find this feeling as close by as possible.
we are in Cinnaminson and I can def tell you that our neighbors are excellent. In fact 3 homes around us(next door and across the street) are original owners from 1959!. The turnover rate here is very low.. We love it here...

It's there, mostly in small towns. In the larger places, you have to look at the development. Pitman is one of the small towns that fits this, in almost a Norman Rockwell way. Haddonfield is like this, but in a somewhat different way.
Audubon. It seems like most everyone has lived there for ever (with the exception of a few rentals and the apartments on the Pike and Merchant street. The 4th of July and Christmas parades always feel very "old time neighborhoody" to me.
I lived in Medford village for 4 years, and that comes close to what the OP has described. Medford is only a couple towns away. The outer perimeter of Medford, I would qualify, is not nearly as cohesive.
There are lot's of great towns and developments within towns. It just really comes down to what you want out of the community. For the most traditional sense, I would stick with the smaller towns like Collingswood, Riverton, Haddonfield, etc. Any town that has an actual "main street" around here seems to do a good job at preserving the community feel.
