It depends on their definition of "nice". The taxes in Cherry Hill can be very high for the nice you get. It is also so large that the areas are all very different. Split levels vs. modern homes vs. townhouses, etc. Some would say there is a great difference in the schools of East vs. West. The proximity to Philly is great but not much different than Westmont (Haddon Twp), Collingswood or Audoban.

The west side of Cherry Hill does not seem to be that inferior to the east side. There is a lot of business out there definitely so it gets more congested the further west you go on Rt 70, but the developments out there don't seem to look any less desirable than what is on the east side.

The major difference is that west is older so some of the housing stock is very old and not "prime". Not only are houses newer in the east but the schools are said to be better. The whole township is convenient to shopping and the city.

Cherry Hill is ugly and congested. I prefer Gloucester Township or Voorhees.

Sorry but I think Gloucester Twp is the definition of "congested" over CHT. That area is so overdeveloped that they can't affor their taxes. I have friends who moved there in the 90's that are dying to get out to avoid the ridiculous property tax that they pay for overcrowded schools. Did you ever drive near there on a Friday night in the summer? THATS'S congested!

I lived in Cherry Hill from '64 to '08, so I know what I'm talking about.

There is old housing stock on both sides. The newer developments of the east side are bigger than the newer developments on the west side.

I was in the last high school class from both sides of town. There was a lot of BS that happened when East was built. There has been a shadow cast on West from the day that the first shovel of dirt was turned to build East.

Being a little extreme, are you??? Congested....on the major roads--yes. Ugly...I have not seen an ugly neighborhood in CH yet. Rt 70 is very busy and Rt 38 is pretty tired looking, but CH is all about the suburban developments and quality schools.

Not too shabby for a township of 70k+

Maybe that person's definition of "ugly" means the modern cookie-cutter developments all over the place. Although Cherry Hill generally isn't what I think of when I hear about cookie-cutter developments, probably because they aren't the big ugly cookie-cutter developments of my generation, for the most part.

Voorhees and Gloucester Twp have many more crappy neighborhoods and not as many high end neighborhoods. Don't know much about congestion in Gloucester Twp, but Voorhees is A LOT more spread out than CH even though it is not as big area-wise, it is 1/3 the population. Portions of it are in the pine barrens.

I was told if you live in CH you can choose east or west to go to. There are no boundaries anymore.

You can choose the high school you wish to attend, but you are locked into whatever elementary/middle school serves your area. There are some pretty large differences between some elementary schools in Cherry Hill. In general, I think most of the better ones are clustered in "East". Regardless, the schools are generally good, but if you want the best Cherry Hill has to offer you need to research the neighborhood you are looking to buy in and pay special attention to the local school.
