I honestly don't think you'll see a bloody slaughter in your yard. These things are tiny...smaller than most tiny birds. How much blood do you think is in a mole/vole? I've seen more blood in a tic.
This is going to sound gross, but if your dogs do get one, they'll probably just consume it and you'll never know.
ground hogs are large.. I think he has ground hogs
Good point, frank. I've had moles. It's easy to spot the raised tunnels, especially in the lawn, though I never saw an open hole. Noticeable, open holes sounds more like ground hogs.
Soulsurv, I wouldn't worry. I wouldn't say that if I didn't mean it. I don't think that you're going to ever have to deal with cleanup. The little animals won't hang around long once they realize that dogs are roaming the yard. Well, maybe they will. When I had the mole, rabbit, groundhog problem, a couple of neighborhood cats cut through my yard daily. They didn't seem to reduce the nuisance, though I never had to deal with a carcass.
First off congrats on your impending move! You are funny, you remind me of Green Acres, a city dweller trying on the rural lifestyle, but ugh, all this dirt and animals, oh my! I would not allow any more poison to go down because of the dogs, but I don't think you need to worry too much. Moles are tiny small brained animals, but they do have a strong survival instinct, and I'm sure they will make themselves scarce when they discover predators on their stomping grounds. I don't think your dogs, in the meantime, are going to be able to find them and dig them up if they are underground. I don't know what you're going to do when the baby bunny nests start popping up on the lawn, though...(actually that was mean...again they will probably avoid your dogs once they smell them there and have their babies somewhere else)
Okay, my bf told me that you put down Grub-X, which kills the grubs, which causes the moles to go elsewhere because the food supply at your place is gone...
You guys are great But it's an infestation which I think manifested itself in the last few weeks due to spring. I'm of a nature that simply abhors any type of vermin - and believe me when I tell you. My females would indeed be predatory. Keep in mind that I'm on my own and really, REALLY am not up to a ground war, so to speak. Moving in knowing there's such a problem just seems irrational to me, after investigating the clean-up proess...thinking of voiding the contract and will undoubtedly lose the deposit - to me, it's worth it. I'm not up to the hassel. Lived in my home in PA for 22 years without a varmint. Lived in my parents' home with a very large yard for 28 years without one. Too gross for words, IMO
Make friends with the neighbors. If you run across anything unpleasant, there's got to be one teen or guy in the neighborhood who would be willing to help. You bake cookies, yes?
