My wife and I are starting to look at houses in the Mt. Laurel and Marlton area, are there certain areas better than others? Where are the areas to shy away from? Our budget is between $275k - 325k. Schools are #1 priority.

There really aren't any "bad" areas per se, but there are some I would recommend staying away from, though would be below your price range anyway or townhome communities.
In Mt. Laurel, I would recommend staying away from the neighborhoods along Larchmont between Route 38 and Union Mill Rd.
In Marlton, I would recommend staying away from any of the communities along Barton Run Blvd. between Taunton Lake Rd. and Tuckerton Rd.
As far as "bad" areas go, that's about it for those towns and like I said they aren't really "bad" just what most consider the least desirable sections of those towns.

Goat, you say between route 38 and Union Mill Rd, is that everything between there or is there a north border or south border?

It would be the specific developments along and accessed through Larchmont Blvd. between Route 38 and Union Mill. If you look on Google maps it's the following square:
On the north Route 38.
On the south Union Mill Rd.
On the east Ark Rd.
On the west Hartford Rd.
The square is bissected by Larchmont Blvd.
Anything outside of that square is fine and the exact area itself isn't horrible per se, it's just the least desirable part of Mt. Laurel. There are some old threads on here about why:

Cherokee (Marlton) and Lenape (Mt. Laurel) are both great high schools, so in that regard you'll be fine in either town. Elementary and middle schools in general are uniformly good, I don't really buy into the "this elementary school is better than that one" posts that you see sometimes on this board.

Where are you commuting to? Depending on where you are in Marlton, it could be a hike to 295 and the turnpike.

I am commuting from Marlton / Mt. Laurel to center city. I believe we exhausted the Cinnaminson area and have not found anything. Any other areas that I could look into?

If you are commuting to CC and plan on using PATCO, Marlton is probably better in term of ease in getting to the PATCO station. Look for something in Marlton closer to Voorhees.
As for the difference in school between the 2 towns, they are very simliar.
