After living in North Jersey for a while i've come back to Cherry Hill, NJ. This part of the state has little to no night life compared to North Jersey. City planners need to take a look at towns like Hoboken or even Morristown for reference.
I think you will find that unlike North Jersey, we don't want all the night live in our neighborhoods. We leave that for Philly to provide. Makes for nicer neighborhoods.
It comes from having extremely easy access to Philly. You can hop a train or drive to Philly in 15-30 minutes from most places and Philly is generally a far more accessible city than New York as it's a lot smaller. There is some night life in South Jersey, but the younger scene has pretty much always been on the Philly side of the river. FWIW, I think Ms_Christina is right, most people don't want a lot of night life in their suburban bedroom communities.

The nightlife in South Jersey is largely dominated by Atlantic City. If you live in the suburbs you would either go to Atlantic City or go across the bridge to Philly. Most people in South Jersey are happy with that so there is really no need to turn South Jersey towns into places like Hoboken or Morristown in North Jersey.
Can you really say that, as suburbs go, South Jersey has little or no night life? Maybe compared to the average city, but not compared to the average suburb. While there's certainly no Hoboken-like place in SJ, there are certainly places with decent downtowns that have things going on, even at night.

Absolutely, it's literally pretty much just Main St Pub, Dublin, the three PJ's, and Top Dog. We need more.
Obviously if you count AC, there is technically a ton of nightlife in South Jersey. But not so much in the tri-county area. The other posters do have a point though - going to bars and clubs in the city is very easy and very accessible.

You're 30 or 40 years too late. Cherry Hill was once an extension of Center City for nightlife, but after the PATCO line opened & the casinos opened in AC, that fizzled.
Phily Diner (misspelling in the name of the diner) and Adelphia's (same owners) in Runnemede and Deptford are both packed on weekend nights with people drinking and dancing.
The alcohol and liquor laws in New Jersey and Pennsylvania are arcane relative to the rest of the country, and I wonder if that contributes to the atmosphere.
