Both towns are safe. Schools are good. I have lived in both and presently live in Marlton. I grew up in Cherry Hill. I am licensed in mortgage banking in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The best school district in New Jersey is Cherry Hill East. Crime is higher because it includes the Cherry Hill Mall. Moorestown has great schools, safe and ranked number 1 in Money Mag town to live in 2005 in the USA, number 5 town in South Jersey mag 2012 in the USA. You have to be a little more specific. More bang for the buck In MH but out there missing some infrastructure and big bugs. It has some traffic problems too and they are only going to get worse. Marlton has more traffic problems. You need to avoid certain roads when the schools let outbecause that leads into rush hour. They have aprox. 10,000+ lots approved for new construction. Not zoned but approved and builders own them and when the market breaks it will be a headache. So it depends on allot of variables.

One of the best in South Jersey, yes. "Best in New Jersey", no. I think most would say, the top three high schools/general districts are Haddonfield, Moorestown and Cherry Hill East. The nice thing with East is that since Cherry Hill offers school selection to the entire town, you can live in a very affordable area of Cherry Hill and still be able to send your kid to East. Haddonfield or Moorestown have a pretty high bar for entry with limited affordable options. Even then though, there is less and less of a distinction between these districts and the ones "one step down" on the tier. For instance, Cinnaminson has a fantastic school system and is much more affordable then Moorestown. You're not really selling your kid short living in Cinnaminson and saving a lot of money versus Moorestown. Same deal between Haddonfield and Haddon Township. The other large regionals like the Lenape Regional Schools, Kingsway and Washinton Township are pretty comparable to East these days.
