Would be curious if anybody has gotten repairs to their chimney and what the cost was.... feeling like I got taken for a RIDE!!! Guy was here and I have been meaning to do it forever.... so I just went ahead.

Got 1 cap, 1 cap/ damper, 6 caps for smaller vent valves (prb not needed but whatever, was basically a throw in), the top re-crowned and sealed AND water proofing for 2 chimneys (this actually felt like the the majority of the "rip off").

Oh yeah... and a cleaning (supposedly)... my whole reason for the guy to come in the first place.

Keep in mind... house is 50+ yrs old and do not think anything has been done with the chimney in all that time.

1,100 bucks.
rough breakdown: cap (150), cap/ damper (550), water proofing (400) and the crown seal in there too boot. Guys were literally outta here in 45 minutes.

Is that horrendous? How much do you feel it should cost????

Curious for thoughts if anyone has or if anyone has had similar work done.

Definitely glad to hear that! ((Or I guess should say SEE that post). Thanks.... one thing to cut a check... another to feel like you got taken to the cleaners.

That's a great deal. We need to have some kind of plates replaced and a new cap and it is going to cost us $2500.

I think that's a great price. I was quoted for similar work plus new "necessary" SS liner and nest removal to the tune of nearly $6k by a Philadelphia cleaning company with good reviews. Chimneys R Us in Sewell came out for a $170 cleaning and didn't find most of that necessary -- and there was no nest to speak of. First company was definitely taking us for a ride. I think you got a great deal!
