Then again, I am in favor of rural areas over suburban and built up areas. That may explain our divergence in tastes. Central and Eastern Burlington county, the area of the county I really like, has towns such as Shamong, Vicentown, Southampton and Chatsworth, some of what I feel to be the best towns in the state. These areas are still in close proximity to blueberry and cranberry bogs. But, again, that's my preference, and that's the part of the county that appeals to me. The 130 corridor, conversely, does not.
Oh dear no. LOL My in-laws live there, I never have. I lived in Mansfield Twsp, and have spent extensive amounts of time in a lot of parts of the county (but I'll admit not the central/eastern part, although I've driven through there a million times). I do like Haddonfield, Medford (a good friend of mine got married at Braddock's), Rancocas, Moorestown, parts of Mt. Holly. I think I just prefer the topology of the Skylands -vs- the Inner Coastal Plain. Plus, the whole "Philly" influence just isn't my cup of tea.

Wow, Braddocks. I miss Braddocks. I used to live 2 blocks north of Braddocks. The ambience of that place was unforgettable.

As for the contrasts between the Skylands vs the Inner Coastal Plains, having live in both places extensively, I have to agree the differences between these places is profound. I think you once said you lived near Netcong: anywhere north and west of Netcong is where I'd live if I had a choice. Places such as Blairstown or Branchville. The difference between those aforementioned places versus Shamong and Tabernacle is such that to discuss on this forum would merely scratch the surface. I could write a book about the difference in cultures. You are one of those few people on this forum that can probably relate to both and discuss both areas with knowledgable detail.

No Braddock's isn't gone! I am. I moved out of Medford and to New Mexico 3 years ago.

I grew up in the Cherry Hill, Voorhees area..it was a nice place, but then we moved to Southampton Township. What a great place it is...the best thing about it is when you say you live there people say "where?" I never heard of it. I would move back there if I moved back to Jersey.

I got married in Braddocks and had our reception there....so nice!

Default South Jersey

As a native, it is a grand place to live--if you want NJ real estate taxes! We have lived in Camden Co (Pennsauken), Burlington Co (Moorestown), and now Gloucester CO (Mullica Hill/S. Harrison Twp.). Commuting to Phl can be a bear. Routes 55 and 42 are always backed up at rush hour. An alternate is to be a bit closer to the Comm. Barry Bridge and take 95N--which can also be a bear! Taking 295N keeps you away from much of the 42 mess. For better schools, larger lots, and a more rural take, I would recommend our current area. S. Harrison may be too pricey for new homes as lots are a minimum of one acre. We even have our own Shop Rite!! And gas stations are getting closer. But you just can't put a price on seeing deer and wild turkeys in the yard. Please be careful when you are looking for good school districts. You have chosen a couple areas with some issues. Check the school report card for more info. Good luck with your home search.

Gee....*cough cough....what are you referring to?
Some of us are making it work for us because we can't afford the NY influence!

I couldn't even afford the Philly influence! Housing values may be less, but the taxes on my home went up by almost 50% in 4 years in Medford. So now it's the El Paso influence! I can afford that, quite easily.

I'd recommend taking a look at Medford Lakes. Homes are not new though. However, we thought we wanted new construction, and we moved to Woolwich from a newer townhome in Delran back in '02. After 3 years in Woolwich, it just felt vanilla, was 35 miles from work, and was just a bedroom community. We hardly saw neighbors.

We moved to Medford Lakes. I knew about the area from growing up in Mt. Laurel and going to high school with fellow residents. We bought a 1960s rancher, that is one-of-a-kind, and loved the town. It is tight knit, they have their own summer camp, swimming, canoeing, activities, etc. Schools are very good to excellent.

We've both pursued some career opportunities in Northern Virginia. The quality of life down here is good, but I still miss our town. Even though I only lived there for 2 years, over those two years I met and became friends with more neighbors than for 2 years in any other location in my life. The woodsy, rustic atmosphere didn't make you feel forced to keep your lawn up every Saturday morning (for those that even have lawns). I occasionally dismissed the sand on the bathroom floor from the nearby lake beaches.

I even still own a property up there, and if I don't sell it, at least I know I have a good place to live.
