The tax rate for income is based on the state tax rate tables:

NJ Division of Taxation - New Jersey Tax Rate Information

There are no local income taxes like in some other states. A "comfortable" salary is also a matter of perspective. The zipcode covering that area is 08085 and that is one of the top 100 (#55) wealthiest areas in the Philly metro. Bridgeport itself is a part of Logan Township and the median household income in Logan is around $87,000 and the median families income is around $100,000. So, consider that average for that immediate area.

Rentals are not easy to come by and there are only two traditional apartment complexes that are part of the same development. Both bill themselves as "luxury" and the cheapest places start at $1,000 for a one bedroom with most places renting in the $1,500 range. The complexes are relatively new having been built in the past few years. The names of the complexes are Westbrook and Pondview at Weatherby:

Apartments at Weatherby - Welcome

There are private rentals available both as homes and townhomes, but it is rare to see a rental house under $1,650 or so a month. If you need something cheaper, then you can look north or south of that immediate area. Paulsboro and Greenwich Township to the north are both much more affordable as are areas of Salem County to the south like Carney's Point, Pennsgrove and Pennsville.
