I want to stay in Central New Jersey. Where are some decent, culturally progressive, economically stable, low crime areas with good schools, shopping, easy access to public transportation (if needed), and etc..? Thanks!

I don't know what your budget is but if you want to stay in Central Jersey than I would recommend Mercer County, NJ. I would recomend the the Princeton or West Windsor area. Both are safe communities but will cost you a lot more live in than the immediate communities around Trenton. You will be in about equal commuting distance to both Philadelphia and New York City. As far as transportation goes, Mercer County offers multiple rail options from Amtrak, NJ Transit, and SEPTA.
