I have to move to New Jersey for a new job. We are a young professional African American family moving from Washington DC area. My job wants to relocate my position to Stafford Township but my wife does not want live out there. She would like to live a little closer to Philadelphia. I have been looking at Mt Laurel, Moorestown, and Medford. Need some advice on potential area to narrow down my search with my realtor. Why do I have a feeling this commute will kill me?

I agree with your wife on not wanting in live in Stafford Twp...although it is near the ocean, it's far enough from Philly to be a PITA. Plus, it's just sort of ho-hum out there (I used to cover some of those areas as a sales rep and it never had much appeal to me).
Mt. Laurel & Mooretown are the better options IMO, in terms of housing prices AND demographics compared to Medford.
You'd be looking at a 50-60 min. trip from Mt. Laurel to Manahawkin, NJ approx., so not too bad
Here's a MapQuest route from Point A to B...although you could take 295 North to 195 East also.
However, Medford would shave about 10-15 minutes of the daily? commute. Evesham is another township but Medford is the most east one while still being in the Philadelphia area.

I agree. I would rather have a shorter daily commute than the commute into Philadelphia. Look for something in Medford (Rt206 and Rt70 area).
I think that your best bet is Medford, the eastern side of Marlton (Evesham Township) or the southeastern portion of Mt. Laurel below Rt. 295. You don't want to be too far away from Rt. 70. Traffic thins out a bit east of Medford, but, Rts. 70 and 72 are two lane highways from Medford down to Stafford. It's either moving... or it's not.
If you live south of Rt. 70, you can drive through Tabernacle and Chatsworth to Rt. 72. Everybody who drives that is a local; there's not too much nonsense. I don't think it'll kill you.
Completely disagree on Medford and definitely not Medford Lakes. WHY? The demographics are lopsided on ONE direction (and have been for a loooong time).
I can't imagine the town folk in the 94% category being very welcoming to someone who isn't just like them. Just saying is all.

Agreed...295 N to 195 E would be a PITA especially from Medford. Route 70 is right there. I've taken 70 and transitioned to 72 to the shore points area..boring as hell with nothing but trees and multiple circles, but traffic was decent and it is a more direct route from what I remember...it's been awhile..thankfully..lol.
I was mainly thinking about location, safety and commute. I see your point though. Would Marlton be any better? I don't really think so. Moorestown? You can't get any more Wonder Bread than that. OP is going to be working and living in predominantly white areas. I don't know or any black, middle class enclaves in that area.
Marlton is probably more demographically diverse than Medford if that is a concern.
The OP didn't mention about kids but just family. Check the differences in the High Schools (Cherokee, Lenape, Shawnee, Seneca)
