I am planning a trip there later this month and since the train is not running yet, I was planning on taking that Route 551 NJT substitute bus from Walter Rand in Camden to Atlantic City and have a few questions. I am planning on going mid week around mid-day and was wondering is Walter Rand fairly safe during the day? Is the transfer from the River Line to Walter Rand (Gate 3) a long walk with a lot of stairs, etc? (I will have luggage so thats why I am asking). Finally is the Rt. 551 bus normally very full/crowded midday on a weekday or will it most likely be a comfortable ride? Thanks for any advice or info.
I have not done that, but I recently took Greyhound from the AC Bus terminal to Philadelphia. The AC bus terminal (including restroom) was pretty disgusting, and the Greyhound bus that I boarded didn't have enough available seats for boarding passengers with a ticket. Overall a pretty bad experience, even though I was lucky to get on before the bus filled up. Other passengers were furious.
Maybe NJ Transit buses are better with enough seats for paying passengers, but a bus will never be as good as a train in that regards. If you can rent a car, it might be worth it. I flew into ACY and took a jitney to the bus terminal, but should have just rented a one-way car. Budget permits one way from Cherry Hill/Mt Laurel to ACY airport. Enterprise has one-ways but they are priced a little higher but they will pick you up/drop you off (Not sure about if Budget does). If you can do a weekend: Enterprise has $12.99/day weekend specials for Friday-Monday. Return to same location as drop off.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Yes, I have taken greyhound before and it was pretty bad with long lines and everyone not getting to board due to overcrowding. Greyhound also charges a lot more than NJ Transit, but they take you directly to the casinos and give you back about $25 voucher for casino play. I have also taken River Line from Trenton and transferring to the AC train in Pennsauken, which was easy. But cannot go that way due to train not running currently.
However, I never took the NJ Transit bus to AC from Camden and was just hoping someone on here took the NJT bus to AC before and can share your experience.
