Good morning, everyone,
I will be moving to Woolwich township this summer, the commute to philly if I am driving is not bad, the office is downtown Philadelphia. My question is, can I commute through public transportation or there is another route to commute to Philadelphia without the toll? paying $5 everyday will eventually affect me. I will appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.
Delaware River Port Authority Discount Plan (DRPADP)
The following discount plan requires enrollment. The DRPA Discount plan provides a credit of $18.00 for an enrolled NJ E-ZPass class 1 tag making 18 or more trips on any of the DRPA bridges in a calendar month. The discount is credited to your account each month for trips taken the previous month.
The only way if traveling public transit is Patco. I drive to Ferry Ave from Woolwich 3x/week. There’s only a handful of stations in Philly for Patco so see which station might be best for you.
You can take 295 to exit 23 to 130 or take 295 to 76 to 676 to exit 3. I work in center city and average 35 min to Ferry Ave from Woolwich. Once the train comes I am usually at my office building in about 20 minutes. Afternoons I never take 676 or 76; I always take 130 down. Once I hit 295 it’s about 20 minutes to my house.
Also as a future Woolwich resident I highly advise against taking exit 10 on 295 South; always take exit 11 to 322.
You cannot get into Philly without a toll.
PM if you want any specifics about Woolwich/Swedesboro.
It's been $5 for a long time. PATCO rules if you live near a station.
It should be free. No one should have to pay for a road when the state gasoline tax is paid for at the pump to pay towards the maintenance and upkeep of these bridges.
If you’re in South Jersey and are working within the city limits you can deduct city wage tax on your income taxes.
It's actually a credit, which is even better than a deduction. I work in Philly and the city wage tax is taken as a credit against my NJ income tax liability. My Philadelphia employer does not deduct NJ or PA state income taxes, just Philadelphia wage tax. It works out well.

The bridges are owned and run by the DRPA, not the state. (The Tacony-Palmyra is owned by the Burlington County Bridge Commission.) The fee you pay at the pump is to maintain roads, overpasses, etc. within the state, not the bridges over the Delaware.
