This is just to get my wheels turning. It's possible we may have an excellent job opportunity in Salem, NJ. Not imminent, just possible.
I've been from Somerset County my whole life and am wondering what some nice towns in Burlington, Gloucester, Cumberland, and Salem counties are. Something within 45 minutes of Salem itself.
Can any of you extremely informed fellow posters give me some insight? We are a family of 5 with 1 DD in HS and 2 DD's in middle school. Schools are important and we don't want a huge school system, but feel free to throw whatever towns you think are nice.

we are moving to Burlington township (Delanco) in a few months. Looks like a dandy area.. very excited.. new shopping centers on 130 yet has much farmland left east of 130..

Look into Mullica Hill in Gloucester County, nice area and there are some private school options if the public schools are too large.

Expensive last I looked.
It's why we settled in Williamstown.
So far, 5 months in, I love it down here. I'm so close to everything.

Yea- your price range is important.
Options close to salem county are Mullica Hill (Harrison Twp), Woolwich Twp (Swedesboro), Logan Twp and Mantua.
Nice small towns in Camden Co include Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Haddon Twp and Audubon.
And then of course you have Cherry Hill, Moorestown, Mount Laurel and Marlton in Burlington Co and Northern Camden Co.
All of the above places have good schools and are very safe.

Good suggestions but if I were working in Salem, I wouldn't want to commute from Burlington County unless I had a reason to.

You could do much less commute than 45 min. I also agree to looking in Woolwich (booming) or Mullica Hill (historic) for good schools. Taxes are high (that's probably why the schools do well). Also, look at Woodstown (cute town, don't know much about the schools).
Focus on Gloucester or Salem

Yeah, I wouldn't live in much of Camden Co. either.
The 42/295 interchange is the 2nd busiest in the state and is notorious for backups.
If you're commuting to Salem on a daily basis I would stay south of there.
OTOH, when I lived in Collingswood I was working in Chester, PA I always went over the Commodore Barry Bridge to avoid the traffic on the Walt Whitman. I took Route 130 south and I would get on 295 past the traffic. It was actually pretty easy.
You can do something similar from Haddon Heights, Audubon, etc. Those are the more historic towns. You won't find any new construction there. |

High radon areas, huh?? I saw a lot of that when we were looking in Warren County too.

What would be south of Salem that would be good??
I'm not really even throwing my price range out there simply because we've lived up here for so long that we are used to it here and figure that down there will be cheaper anyway. I don't want to pay astronomical taxes.
Is there an MLS site for that area? I know up this way we go on gsmls.com but I don't see a similar site for south Jersey.
