Would appreciate any reviews (maintenance, safety, comfort) of Troy Towers apartments in Bloomfield, NJ.
Thanks very much!
We moved into Troy Towers just under a year ago and are not renewing our lease. We would not recommend living here to anyone. The management is horrendous. They do not return calls when service is needed and constantly harass tenants by placing obnoxious notes under tenants doors. We were hit with a $200 rent increase this year and have decided to move elsewhere.
There are major problems with mice and especially parking. Just today, there was an article posted in the Star Ledger regarding a town council meeting to address the living conditions here:

I guess I could just say ditto to jodi84. Horrendous is an understatement and I will be moving too. I thought being close to the train and the pretty apartment would be enough...it's not. Rents going up 15-22% is pathetic but as they say in one of their daily "love notes" under the door..."it's a free world, you don't like it you can move." I quit reading the notes after one said that if you couldn't find a parking space (that we pay for) "C'est la vie!" Since you asked about the area, take a walk around the blocks...speaks for itself. The landlords don't - they are VERY nice before you move in!
*****HORRIBLE HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT*****
when we first moved in a few years ago it was a decent place to live (great commute to the city and all utilities included). then management was switched over to the sons and it went downhill very quickly. there are not enough parking spots for all the tenants anymore or else they give out parking passes freely. now they will tow your car while you are sleeping or at work without notifiying you. i found mouse droppings in my stove... yuck!!! i get no call backs from the management office anymore. sometimes it takes several weeks and/or stern voicemails to the office to get the simplest maintenance requests taken care of. we get at least one memo per week regarding some new policy change. i understand the building is old, as are a lot of the current tenants, but definitely not a good way of trying to hold on to your newer tenants or bring in new ones. plus, they want to kick out all the tenants on fixed incomes that have been there for years -- very sad. basically, you'll like it at first, but will become quickly aggrevated! not worth it! oh and they WILL raise your rent every year! you can forget about them ever being accommodating or reasonable even if you do pay "market rent". the only plus is the train and the bloomfield steakhouse and garden state yoga. other than that, it's not a good neighborhood -- right next to newark and muggings are not unusual.

oops, that was not Jodi84 that I was agreeing with; it was the post above mine.

Haven't been inside but if you lived there you know that it's not "next to Newark". It's closer to Glen Ridge.
Dont move to Troy Towers in Bloomfield NJ. It use to be a very nice place to live. Over the past year the management started taking Section 8 and now it's become like the Newark projects. Very shady people have been moving in and it's become very unsettling. Most of the stuff you read on their website is fluff. It's not safe to walk around the area and now it's no longer safe to live here. It's a shame because in the beginning it showed great potential. Now I will be moving out because of the change in the quality of people moving in. Not to mention the mice problem and roach problem - which is something new.
I am updating with new info. Moved here late 2010 - rent 1200.00 plus 25. to park. 1 year later rent 1275.00 plus 25. to park. Neighbor with identical space just increased to 1375. plus 25. so I am expecting that for 2012 rent. (No parking if you come in after 10:00 p.m.) In other words, expect your rent to increase $175.00 in two years! ...now the management has moved offsite it appears...the cops (when they come because of the noisy neighbors) are shocked to find there is no supper on site!
At least I've recovered the cost of my move here now so I can move out again! Add moving out to your cost to live here...no one loves it anymore.
