That's what led to these particular clubs - because the Caddyshack-style clubs were "restricted", they didn't allow Jews to join. I suspect many still are restricted, although they won't fess up to it. The Jewish country clubs emerged as an answer to this, although you certainly don't have to be Jewish to join. I imagine membership requirements vary pretty greatly, but considering the demographics and economics of most country clubs, I suspect "ability to pay" and "has pulse" are the two most vital membership criteria.
