My wife is changing jobs and would require commute to Manhattan pretty close to Penn Station (near 28th Street, 7th Avenue) & little far from Grand Central. We were exploring 1 to 2 BR apartments in Westchester County, Stamford etc.

Friends advised us of exploring somewhere near Metro Park station (Edison, NJ) for ease of parking, commute hence this query

We are from India and since last 5 years used to travel from Connecticut to Iselin/Edison area for Indian Grocery and Food so are excited to be moving close however only for shopping don't want miss the serene, green, peaceful environs of sub-urban connecticut or West Chester County. Since will be visiting NYC on a daily basis anyway so especially want to avoid the crowded/busy areas of Iselin/Edison

Would love to be in a clean, peaceful, diverse (not a purely Indian community), and avoid some of traffic, crowd, congestion of Edison. Want to take a 10-20min drive to Metro-Park or Rahway etc for train to Penn Station. We don't want an independent house rather would love a good 2BR condo/apartment complex with basic amenities like Cable,Dryer/Washer .. possibly a Pool,Gym,Clubhouse .. and maybe nearby tennis courts , Golf Course ...

am i asking for too much with a budget below 2000/pm in a very good condo/aprtment?

your reccos will be deeply appreciated since been driving down city to city but not getting a good flavour. Will like to explore a condo/apartment with your tips and relocate from conneticut to nj within a weel or two. Also since no plan for kids in near future school district is not important but good neighbourhood is

Well, you're definitely not going to find the "serene, green, peaceful environs of sub-urban connecticut" within 15-20 minutes of Metropark or Rahway stations....lol. The Woodbridge/Edison/Rahway area is very dense, and very congested, and 15-20 minutes isn't going to take you very far. It can take 15 minutes to get to Menlo Park Mall in Edison from Metropark during rush hour.

Don't get me wrong- you can find some nice places for $2,000/month (or less), but they're still going to be fairly dense "suburbs", while it sounds like you're really looking more for what's often called the "exurbs", which are much further out.

Default Thanks Bob

understand your point .. now question is should i move north of Edison/Metropark to Rahway and further or go south to New Brunswick .. south would add to commute i guess but can see some good apartments/condo complexes that side .. however not so sure on Rahway side .. some people even suggest Summit area but seems like doesn't have rental communities but more of independent houses which we don't prefer .. any suggestions ..

I can't think of any stop along the major train lines that is 15-20 minutes from the more rural places you seem to be looking for- especially along the NE corridor or coast lines.

I would suggest looking into northern jersey towns like rutherford, montclair, etc. They are definitely greener and prettier than central jersey or south jersey. Commute will be within an hour. This is based on our experience of looking to buy a home, so not sure about the rentals.

you've got to be kidding, rutherford???? have you ever been there? I can name dozens of towns in central and s.jersey that have more appeal than that place

You may consider Edison Hollow South which is 5 minute walk to Edison Train Station and 45 min one way NJ Transit to NYC Penn Station, no transfer, with train left Edison Train with seats.

The one bedroom condo rent is around $1,375 and 2br 2ba condo with builtin washer/dryer is $1650, more or less. Many neighbors moved from CT and working at NYC as IT professionals.

One mile away there is a nice Fairway Golf Center Fairway Golf Center | Fairway Golf Course one of the best in New Jersey that you can relax so is your family with mini golf.

Not far away with Johnson Park right next to river with zoo, tennis court, and huge many BBQ area that some family BBQ has hundreds of friends or relatives all can fit.

Nearby Rutgers University has a huge golf course too that is very affordable. Rutgers Golf Course - Index and lots of free high quality concerts from the Music dept. and many arts exhibit, museums ...etc.

Next to Edison Hollow South is Edison and Blueberry Village that can also walk to Edison Train Station. There are others like Rivendell, Rivendell Village, Rivendell Heights (new), Oxford Arms, The Commons (condo), Starpoint (townhouses), Woodhaven (condo), Brookview Commons (condo), Aspen Manor (condo).

There are also many Indian Festivals every years, at Rutgers Univ, Radison Hotels, Park ...etc.

Do you owne the complex or something? Do you even read what people are posting, or do you just see the term "central Jersey" and assume everyone wants to live in Edison Hollow South??

They're looking for something green, peaceful, and serene, like rural CT- Edison in general, and especially the area around EHS is far from it.
