hi,
we're looking into buying a house, through the builder, and are also now looking for a lawyer to help with the contract, we found the home ourselves, so no agent. Just wondering if someone knows the average cost for the lawyer's services, so we know when someone might be overcharging. the place is a condo, priced at 300k, it's new 2010 built and in edison area.

thanks.

$750-1500 is normal - 750 is the bargain flat rate fee, usually with a simple process. $1150-1300 is what I have found, and you want to have a very good lawyer is very thorough and has your best interests in mind.

I heard an attorney representing a purchase cost more than an attorney who represents a sale. So as a buyer I have to pay more because there's more work including negotiation, review of inspection report and title insurance request. Who knew?

My attorney charges buyers $1200 for a purchase and sellers 1000 for a sale.
