Hi everyone, I here to ask why do so many people jump to a the conclusion that you are a racist when you ask a question about a group of peoples. If thye question is something such as "Why do some asian cultures use chop sticks" all of a sudden people will jump at you left and right telling you your racist? I just don't get how so many people are so sensative and can even claim questions like this are racist.

Generally, because they themselves are racist... they are over compensating... I was once called racist for noticing that a certain brand of cigarette was primary purchased by African Americans. Noting culturally, physically, or other differences does not make one a racist, at least not to me. Some believe any notice of distinction based on ethnicity makes you racist... for me, it's not treating a particular group differently, it's treating a particular group, based on race, in a less desirable way then you treat other racially based groups.

I rarely call anything racist, most of the time it is total BS or just over reaction, but nemmert, how do you know those cigarette smokres where ever in Africa?
Also the worst example of overt in your face racism and censorship I have seen belongs to Google.com.

You're probably are unaware because the nature of it is they make certain things dissappear from their results, therefore you're probably thinking "wtf?", but I'm righteously on about this one.

If someone called another race as ratty, dirty, stinky- I would also call that person racist.

Wouldn't you?

It really doesn't only have to do with race, zz. Anytime a generalization is made about ANY group these days, especially when there are negative connotations attached, it will be looked at as a very sensitive statement. If one has a question about a certain group, he/she should reread the contents of their proposed message several times, and try hard to ensure it doesn't contain judgemental values. Sometimes it's hard to do.

If you feel the absolute need to post such a message, it might help if you write the text one day and store it on your computer without posting it. Then read it again a day or two later, and make any changes before you actually post it. Sometimes you will see things that really should be changed prior to publication.

There is nothing wrong with SELF-censorship, and it can keep you out of trouble sometimes.
