Economists predict N.J. may be among last to recover from recession | NJ.com

Quote:
If you think the local economy isn’t getting any better, you’re right.

New Jersey has yet to see any strong signs of economic recovery, even as the rest of the region has started to pull out of the recession, the New York Federal Reserve Bank said today.

While neighboring New York has rebounded strongly since late last year, New Jersey appears to have hit bottom and plateaued, according to the bank’s economic indicators.

This is not good news for anyone.

I wonder what Christie is going to do about this.........it seems hes so far left all the Urban areas high and dry and has yet to address there problems. & What about Camden ? Clean that city up and it can be the next JC and bring $$$ into the state. Why only focus on AC , which only does good during the summer.

Dude, the massive amount of money that is pilfered from the taxpayers of the state to prop up the failing urban areas is one of the prime REASONS the state is not recovering. The taxes (property and otherwise) that go to support these areas have bled the state dry, driving out all of our businesses and making the cost of living so high that we're suffering from a declining population of the people that actually work and pay taxes.

You want the state to recover? Stop propping up the cities with billions, cut taxes across the board for everyone and make this a more friendly state for business owners and companies.

The Cities don't suck up millions , they produce millions and billions for the state each year. Schools like i and other ppl have said take most of your taxes. I was talking more about creating friendlily business environments , fixing Newark's and Elizabeth's Crime issues & flushing out corruption. Flushing out Corruption state wide would help our state recover faster.

Then why can't they support their own school districts and municipal government functions? A city producing billions should not require billions in state aid to the tune of 60-70% of the state budget, while the rest of the state's municipalities get practically zero aid and must charge high property taxes.

These cities are on welfare, and until we stop the gravy train, they'll keep sucking up all our money and this state's problems will only get worse.

Weird. I lived in Jersey during the supposed climax of this recession and never had any serious financial problems. The small business I worked at had a steady growth rate as did it seem the other small businesses in the general area (east Morris county/west Essex county). Obviously there was a dip in mid-09 but after about September business kept going up and still was up until I moved last week.

Not a City , all Urban areas combined pump out a billion. So your saying everyone in Urban Jersey is poor? Corruption is a huge problem in this state , in the cities it has caused problems. Christie needs to target the corrupt officials and make this state more efficient. But the cities don't suck up $$$ form the state there only hurting themselves. But made more efficient can boost the entire state up. Half the state works in Urban Jersey.

Default so when did 'economists' ever get it right?

It all depends on whose economists wrote the article.
