I find this forum so extremely helpful. My friend recently recommended I look at Ridgefield Park to buy a home. I have looked at some homes and they fit our criteria (under $350k, 3 bedrooms, good schools- both Roosevelt and Lincoln elementary get good ratings from greatschools.net). It seems too good to be true- am I missing something? Are there other towns in Bergen county you can suggest?

From the previous post it seems you all provide the best advice when you know a little background on the person. Here is my info:
-My husband and I have just been approved for a loan for $350K through a first time home buyer program, so we can't go over that amount.
-Household income is $130K
- I live in the Bronx, NYC with my husband and 1 year old twins. Ideally we would find a decent neighborhood/school in NYC or Westchester but I'm not finding anything in my range. We are also considering Rockland County in NY
- My husband works in a school in the Bronx and and I work around 14th Street in Manhattan. Staying in Bergen county is important because my husband's commute will be too long (he will drive). Public transportation (train and/or bus) important since I will have to take that to work (my husband has to be at work 2 hours before me).
-Lastly, diversity is somewhat important. We are an African American/Latino couple. I dont mind the town being overwhelmingly white but I dont want my kids being the only nonwhite kids in a classroom.

Thank You so much your advice/suggestions are really appreciated!

Check property taxes... higher than surrounding towns if I last recall.

also there are a lot of 2-family homes which I don't mind at all, but some do. there's definitely an increasing # of Latino/AA families with many renting part of the 2-fams, so your children won't feel out of place, gluck.
