That's the problem, there is no momentum. As much as I hate to admit it the arena was Sharpe James's idea. NOTHING was built under booker.

With all the progress that has been made in the city, this would be a darn shame. Hopefully people wake up.

the burst of the housing bubble killed any chances newark had of being fixed up. now there is no hope of any positive news there for at least 10 years, probably much longer.

I think its time we form separate cities of Newark. Like Ironbound Township , North Newark can take over the North ward. I think Newark should annex the 2 Troubled parts of the city. aka South & West wards. Those 2 Wards will always hold Newark back. But at least 70% of the city will never go back down hill , because it continues to climb up hill.

Is that right?? Wow, that is shameful. It's completely inappropriate to bring race into an election, and there is no excuse for anybody of any race to declare that their opponent is not (insert race here) enough to be mayor of a town. That is ABSURD. Can you imagine somebody running for mayor in Chatham or Westfield, and saying that their opponent is not white enough to govern the town? Or Fort Lee -- somebody running for mayor and saying that their opponent is not Asian enough to be mayor?

Shame on the people of Newark to elect somebody like that.

Some people are optimistic about a Newark turnaround, but I honestly don't see it happening in this lifetime. Newark has a ton of problems, and in my opinion, does not have the assets that Hoboken and Jersey City leveraged in their renaissances.

I'm just curious about how the whining in the OP helps things. If it were my city in trouble or danger, I'd do something about it other than whine on the internet.
