NEC Train ride along the Ironbound and Jersey's Most annoying Railway station Announcement
A Northeast Corridor train ride form Newark Penn station to EWR , Passing PA-5 cars headed into the Waverly Yard , then we pass various parts of the Ironbound aka the European section of Newark. Form the tracks we can see the New Residential areas eating away at the old Industrial factories block by block. @ 2:22 we can see the old PRR branch , that is currently used by CSX. However it might be used one day again for a Newark bypass line for True High Speed Rail. @ 2:53 we go under I-78 Local and Express lanes and @ 2:56 we go under US 22. @ 2:59 we pass a Train departing EWR for NYP. @ 3:03 we hear the Annoying Announcement again.

Nexis was thinking of you yesterday. I drove to Springfield, MA to meet a guy to sell a car (half way point) and took the train home. My first trip on an Amtrak as far as I can remember.
I was supposed to catch the Vermonter but ended up taking an earlier commuter train --the 463 from Springfield to New Haven and then the 163 from New Haven to NY Penn.
The whole process was pretty darn easy. Amtrak exchanged my Vermonter ticket with no hassle or charge. Train was nice and spacious and had 120volt outlets next to every seat.
The change in New Haven was simple. Get off, and wait for the next train 5 minutes later.
The train from New Haven to NYP had a snack car with green mountain coffee among other things.
Penn station was not my favorite -as soon as I got there I began to get harassed for money. I jumped on the first train to SEC (which was pretty much immediately) to avoid the crowd and then caught a nice express back up to Waldwick which took only about 35 minutes including a bunch of stops.
Overall the drive took me less than 3 hours... the train ride right about 4 hours and 20 minutes including stops and change overs.
Cost was $67 for the train to NYP from Springfield.

Usually you can get deals if you book ahead. The problem with train travel is the cost. I can fly as cheaply as take the train to NYC. Unless I get a deal, flying is just so much more efficient. Actually driving is much faster but not as relaxing.
Many of the newer trains are offering internet Wi-Fi through major areas.
I just can't seem to shake Urban Jersey , although its easier to due in the colder weather months..... I'll do the Morristown line in the summer , problem the Gladstone branch and Morristown / Summit... I'll do The Amboys and Red Bank in the spring....
I like those train videos from NJ. Keep them coming.
Here is the Amtrak Silver star arriving at Southen Pines NC at about 10:30 pm every night. Originates in NYC and stops at Newark before heading South for Miami Fl.
