Any suggestions for the best & most commutable beaches for residents in the NNJ area (Bergen, Hudson, etc.) ...?

Default forum - beaches

I grew up in Jersey - but that was about 25 years ago - so things probably have changed a lot. I lived in Ridgewood - Bergen County. For day trips we went to Sandy Hook. For week trips we drove 4 hours to Wildwood. Wildwood really has the best beaches - and at that time - they had a great boardwalk.

Default Beach suggestion

Sandy Hook State Park, which is probably the closest commute, is a nice beach with ammenities for a day trip. Second choice would be Island Beach State Park. For amusement/boardwalk I would suggest Pt. Pleasant. Seaside Park amusement is overcrowded and not as safe an area.

FWIW: Sandy Hook has been a national park for about 30 years now, if you plan on visiting Sandy Hook on a weekend be aware the place gets very crowded and the parking lots can fill up by 10 AM, parking is $10

I agree Island Beach State Park - then if you want to do the boardwalk, Seaside is right there.
