My husband and I want to take our son to see the Macy's fireworks. Has anyone gone into NYC for the viewing? What's your advice? Is there fireworks at Liberty State Park? What do you suggest with a 5-yr old? (I understand there are no bathroom spots once you reach the FDR.)

- Thanks

I've been there twice, it's more fun for all the crowd there and a little better show.

Your best bet is to get there really early, like 2pm or even earlier. For the 5-yr old, you can get those pull-ups (diaper-type things). Problem may be more for the adults, I think there are very few of those port-a-potties there. You can find a spot either on the FDR drive itself or under the bridge. It's ok if there are several layers of people ahead of you. Just make sure you have a clear view of the East River. And stay real close, so that you don't lose each other when the mob heads back. That is quite a sight in itself, getting out of that place after the show.

You can also consider Atlantic City, if that isn't way off. They have a very good show, and it's easier to find room. Macy's is good for the name mainly.

Thumbs up Roosevelt Island is the Best!.

Try Roosevelt Island. You have to buy tickets though. I think they were about $10 the last time I went there. But you get the convenience of watching the fireworks without the hassle of the crowds.

They have chairs lined up facing the fireworks along with refreshment stalls and lots of port-a-potties in an enclosed private area. If you ask me this is the best choice for someone with little kids or does not want to deal with the traffic and crowd. Another plus no need to get there 6 hours early .

I hope you don't have kids as that is such a white trash, ignorant thing to say. The kid is FIVE!

p.s. I retrieved my password and replied to this old post just because of you. Congrats.
