No instructions on the notice? I thought there were details on how to pick it up if you didn't want to wait for next delivery.

Usually it says where you should pick up your package if you don't want to wait for next attemp.
Look for the closest UPS office and pick it up for yourself instead of waiting.

You should be able to go online and tell them you want to pick it up.

You should definitely be able to pick it up call the UPS 1-800 number and enter your tracking # (it's on the slip) they'll tell you where the package is and give you the option to pick it up. If you can't pick it up I would suggest leaving a notice on your door saying "dear UPS guy, please leave the package by the door, no signature required. Thanks!" They'll usually do it, question is if your neighborhood is the type where you know it'll be there when you get home (i've got no clue what town you are in).

The note they left on the door should actually have a check box for leaving the package. You shouldn't have to write a seperate note.

If the sender said signature required though, that is not an option.

I have went and gotten a package before from Fed Ex. Only thing to keep in mind is to wait a few hours after they leave the package (otherwise you could go down there and find its still on the truck)

I would call the UPS customer service number to see what their policy is. I have gotten a pkg same day from them before. And as far as the signature goes, the shippper decides if they want a signature or not, that should also be marked on your slip...

Yes. No.

For the first question: On the delivery notice is the 1-800 number (1-800-742-5877). Call that number and choose "Track a package". On the delivery notice there should be a bar code. Just above that bar code is a number. Speak that number to the system and follow the prompts. Specifically, you are looking to have the package held at the regional delivery center for your area. Usually you will wind up speaking with one of the traffic managers at that center. He or she will make the annotation in the system so that when the truck returns, the package will be pulled and held.

You should be able to confirm this has been done online by entering the tracking number on UPS.com. If you don't see the exception listed by midnight, I'd try to follow up with UPS through the 1-800 number to make sure it has actually been done.

For your second question: if the item being delivered is not "of value", and you can't get to the center noted above, just sign the delivery notice form, note where you want the item left, and stick the notice on your front door. I usually put a small bit of scotch tape to make sure it stays on the door in case of winds and the like.
Good luck!
