I am considering moving to Johnson Ave (1 block from Matawan train station). Can anyone tell me how bad the noise/traffic is from there? I love the home, but am hesistant as this house is in very close proximity to the train.
Thanks so much!!

there will be noise and there will be traffic, I hope that you didn't expect one of the busiest stations on the line to be quiet.
The trains blow there horns at every crossing, and I think there are 2 right by the station, and I am sure you're aware of the volume of cars that park there.

Anyway you can ask your potential neighbors what they think of living there with the noise? We used to live in a very close proximity to a busy fire house. Now I realize a fire alarm whistle is different from a train station, but we came to not even notice the alarm when it went off. Living near a busy train station might not be the ideal situation, but if you really love the house, and it's something you think you can tolerate...go for it. Think of how much you'll save in parking when you need to use the train!!

If you're really lucky to have a big driveway, you can rent out monthly parking spaces...could help pay your mortgage.

As far as noise. I live about 2 1/2 miles from the station and can hear the whistle at night. Not loud, but I can hear it.

I have lived on Johnson Ave for 10 years. It is a quiet neighborhood most of the time. The train noise has never been a problem for us (we live about halfway up the street). The only time you see an increase in traffic is when the train lets out, usually 10 or 15 cars at a time.
