I am considering a move from NC to NJ for a position in Jersey City (Harborside Financial Center). Where do people with families live when working in Jersey City? What are some of the best suburbs with good schools and a decent communte? I would be interested in renting at first- I'd like a house or townhouse with at least two bedrooms and prefereably with a yard (we have a dog). Is that even possible to find in NJ without spending all day on a train?

Family is just my daughter and myself (and the dog and cat). I could probably afford to rent someplace for 2500-3000 per month (although that would change if I had to consider private school). I am happy to live in the suburbs (in fact I prefer it), I am just not sure where to begin. What are some nice family friendly suburbs that are an easy trainride away from Jersey city?

Also, I guess I should clarify that my daughter is in elementary school. Right now she is in a highly academically gifted program at her school in NC and she loves it. I am hoping to find a town with an excellent elementary school that isn't too far away from Jersey City.

I live in Edgewater and my daughter attends EVG. I thought the school is pretty good, although I am not sure if they have the program you mentioned. The school's web site is below so you can take a look yourself or just call them. Good luck!
