Can anyone tell me more about this process? I am interested in a house that is supposed to be going to auction.

I would like to know 1) is there a lien or mortgage on the home (or any encumbrances) 2) how many back taxes are owed - what else do I need to know? I don't necessarily care about the condition of the home itself although I am sure its not doing well as it's been empty and unattended for some time now.

I do not see the house listed here yet

While it doesn't directly address the OPs question, something recent that he/she/others SHOULD be aware of is this:

"When foreclosures are done with faulty documentation, that could leave the new owners of the house vulnerable to claims. Title insurance protects the buyer against defects, errors or omissions in the chain of title.", But "title insurer said earlier in the week that it would not write policies for properties that had been foreclosed by another big lender, GMAC Mortgage."

This is also affecting foreclosures by Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase.
