Several decades ago there was this street near a PATH station where the sign stated "No Parking Tuesday & Thursday". Well some local JC fuzzolini kept writing tickets every day of the week. Eventually I got about 4 or 5 of them, showed up in court to find a whole room of people with the same ticket. The judge kept calling each one individually and going through dismissing each one individually like he didn't know what the deal was. I took pics of the sign and passed around copies to the others in the room fighting the same tickets.

Reporting back on the result: I contested and went to court. The judge dismissed the ticket. He said that being in the car with the engine running did not constitute parking (my engine was off but he decided to assume it was running without any help from me). He also dismissed 80% of the other tickets for which people showed up. Thanks for the advice folks!

Good for you! It's a minor episode, yes, but your victory against a corrupt system is a victory for us all.

The problem with BS tickets is that more often than not, people will not fight them, and the cops are well aware of that.

If I have to lose $1,000 each time fighting a bogus $50 ticket, I will fight it each time until I am in the poor house and dead on the street.

How much did you spend in court fees? Usually the towns don't care about the ticket you can fight almost anything and win the town just wants the money. It's happened a few times to me actually I had to go 4 times for the same thing the other guy kept not showing so I had to pay everytime I went. It was dismissed but I was out money for the court fees. (What ever they are times 4)

There were no court fees. Also, the judge said that we didn't have the right to have the officer present for parking ticket related cases.
Sorry to hear about your incident - it sucks to have to pay with your time AND money.

The Judge is following the proper procedure. Each case must be dealt with individually on it's own merits ON THE RECORD. Remember a while back all those dismissals that resulted in criminal charges? Dismissals off the record. Too much ability for fraudulent actions. NJ Court Rules mandate certain procedures that can't be deviated from by anyone without consequences.

What happened in the case prior has no bearing on the next case for the most part.
