Have you considered East Brunswick? Great town, closer to the city, and really nice homes. Also, school systems are one of the best...

No - we haven't looked at EB yet - but looks like we may have to.

Bottomline is we need to be in Middlesex County as that is where most of the things we desire are (restaurants, stores, some family and friends etc...) - so Old Bridge looked like a good choice specially because homes looked more affordable here (we saw some good homes in the $350k-$$375k range) which is our sweet spot.

Again we are not that concerned about high schools yet buy commute and affordability is a big factor and Middlesex is what we think will suit us best.

EB could be worth looking into - maybe even Edison, Metuchen etc...as schools are probably better and commute looks closer - no idea about what we could get there in out price range. We are not looking for a big house but definitely something that is newer and clean - not really interested in 10-15 year old homes that may need repairs and things like that.

Thanks!!

Hi vdmehta76,
We are also looking for homes in Old Bridge, Matawan area and came across some good listings. I actually saw one home today for the 2nd time and planning to go ahead with an offer.
The home I am looking at is 2 miles away from Matawan Train Station and is right off of Rt 34 near the Cafe 34 restaurant.
Do you and any one on this forum know about the commute via train from this area?
How is Matawan train station? How about in the late evening or night hours if you have to wait for bus, would it be safe?
Thanks in advance for all your inputs.

Hi marchalimbu - I am not sure about commuting from the matawan train station as I am not using it. I commute from metropark in iselin and that works fine for me. There are also buses that run always from the old bridge area - something that I may use in the future.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. I came to know about other options recently and you are right the buses seem to be better option. I will have to check with the Iselin Option though. So that would be 10 Miles drive and rest in Train?
Thanks

thats right - there is a bit of a drive to iselin but it gives you another option - buses are always there just in case - best thing about driving to metropark is the parking at the station - its generally always available if you get there before 9am - my schedules are a bit erratic so that works fine for me for now...

Do you have a buyer's agent (real estate agent) yet because they would be able to advise you on all the different towns and what you can afford, where, etc... They also usually know about the schools, shopping and stuff like that as well.

For commuting to NYC, from Heritage Woods, Old Bridge- how about driving to South Amboy station. It looks (on the map) to be only 13 mins drive and I heard parking is not a problem there. Also, you get express trains from NYP to here which are about 45-50 mins ride + 15 min drive .. keeps u around 1 hr 5 -1hr 10 min mark!

I have relatives in Sayreville who wanted to use that station, only to find that SA and Matawan stations both require residency for a daily parking space. They use the Park & Ride by Pathmark on Rt 9 & Ernston instead, some days it takes two hours to get home. Not ideal in my opinion.
