I cannot believe the huge price increases in Scott's products. All their fertilizers (4 steps) and seeds are incredibly expensive now. I went to buy some seeds at Lowes and the big bag was selling for $95+.

Has anyone tried the other brands of fertilizers/seeds ? How do they perform compared to Scott's?

Scott seems to have the market in this - hence why it is so much money! I tend to keep the bags around from 3-5 years until I use it all up. But it is very expensive, I agree. I only seed when needed.

After pricing out the cost of continuing to buy all the products myself, I found it was actually cheaper to pay a service to come out and treat the lawn. I still cut it myself, but it was literally the same cost to hire the service to do all the fertilizing, weed/insect treat and seeding as it was to go out and buy all the products.
