I was on another forum that got me thinking about Hudson County and how it stands.
Do you think Hudson County has a better chance at becoming a stand alone city rather than being a county with all the tiny (land mass) municipalities?
Hudson County = 47 square miles & 600,000 people
Atlanta, Minneapolis, Denver, Buffalo, Cleveland, Indianopolis, Washington DC, Tampa, etc all have smaller land masses and all have a smaller population than Hudson County.
Hoboken could function as the premier "neighborhood"
Couldn't this help the Tax situation in Hudson county?- Rake in tourism, become more desirable, give the state stronger identity, etc

Secaucus has Secaucus junction- There's very few suburbs in the whole nation that even have that powerful of a system.
I see what you're getting at though.. It's just a thought.
It would make a lot of sense to me. There is no point in all these little municipalities. I think the true "Downtown, Center City" area would be Downtown JC and Hoboken.
That has nothing to do with the town. It is a state facility and they maintain and control it. It uses few resources of the town, nor really draws much woith the exception of ems at times and some additional workload for the court system.. I'm not sure if it even brings in an tax money to the town. Possibly the small number of retail areas generate some tax monies.
The boom that never developed was the commercial development that was to go along with the Secaucus Junction site. That is history and will never materialize which would have brought in big rateables.
I don't think it will happen because Hudson County is the poster child for NJ political corruption. Too many people have a stake in their separate little kingdoms.
Of course, that could be flipped, and if it would work out for the machine to turn it into one city, then it would happen.
True. But that county has way too many municipalities to begin with. They could do a little bit of merging up there.
Yeah, Bergen is bad also.
