Hi,

I am moving to New Jersey end of summer (in a couple of months) and will be working in Clinton (Annandale). Am trying to figure out where to live.

Towns that are safe and diverse, and an easy commute from Clinton (30-35 minutes) would be ideal. I am looking for a place with a downtown area. I intend to rent an apartment initially (budget $1000 to $1500 /mo).

I am new to the Jersey area and my background on NJ is very limited - would therefore appreciate any input/info I can get.

Thanks!

v

Why not stay right in Clinton? Its not the greatest place to be young and single, but it nice and very safe, has a small downtown. There are some places to hang out. Im a bit out of touch with nightlife but here goes, the Holiday Inn has a nightclub, Pattenburg Inn for live bands. Nice resturants, good pizza. You can also look at New Brunswick I think the commute will be every bit of 35 min, Rutgers U. is located there.

Thanks. Yes, Clinton would certainly be a good option how would you rate Somerville? It appears to be a relatively easy commute. And the community there appears to be quite diverse and the town is mid-sized, so perhaps its a better place to be single than Clinton?

You might want to look into Morristown. Although it wouldn't be right by Clinton (probably a 30-40 min. drive), Morristown probably is one of the best places to be young and single in NJ.

The commute probably wouldn't be too bad, actually; you might hit a bit of traffic on 287 but since you'd be reverse commuting you would fly on 78.

Somerville is ok, I used to live in Raritan (next town over.) I guess it used to be good in its time before the malls came in an took away the downtown. Every Friday they have a car show on Main St. There are some really good restarants especially Italian. I also heard there is supposed to be a big downtown project. Maybe you can do a search ib the forum for better info. Certainly check out Morristown. You will travel against traffic just check out 287 for the drive home north, it could bump up your travel time. Probably worth it. Not sure about rent. Look on South St. near the square.

Hi, I live in Annandale. It's very beautiful but it depends on what you want out of life. Clinton is a lovely small historic town. Very quiet though so it probably isn't the best for a single person. I like Morristown, very walkable, and has more nightlife than Clinton area but it will be at least 40 mins commute. Flemington is ok. Bigger and more diverse than Clinton with it's own downtown main street, and only about 20 mins commute.
