Tick Tock for late nights. Coach House in Hackensack is solid too.

Matthew's Colonial in Waldwick for breakfast/brunch & family atmosphere.

Skylark Diner in Edison for a more fancy experience. It's art-deco and IIRC Craig Shelton of the Ryland Inn is now "guest chef" there

Mastories, Bordentown is great... but more like a restaurant nowadays. Love the bread!

Americana, East Windsor is good too.

When you live near rt 130... there's too many to choose from.

One of my favorites (though I've only eaten there once) is the Deepwater Diner. It's a small diner, a 1958 Silk City, in a small town with a classic diner menu. The food was good.

Deep Water Diner @ HollyEats.com

I had a great breakfast at the New Berlin Diner a couple of months ago. I'll definitely go back.

This place isn't really a diner, at least not in the way that I would classify a diner. I've seen it listed as Apanay's Cafe and Apanay's Diner Restaurant so I'll include it. It's a small restaurant at Ong's Hat with a classic diner menu, pages of selections. The waitress told us that breakfast was served all day and that anything on the menu could be changed and prepared to our liking. My dining companion had salad, soup, dessert. I ordered a fish dinner with a sauce that, according to the menu, was only offered with chicken. The fish was not overcooked! Trust me, that is a rarity. It's a great little place and I can't praise it enough.

My father in law is a train buff. He loves going to the Clinton Station Diner and sitting in the old train car.

Growing up I loved the Chester Diner. No idea if it is still around.

I like State Line Diner, too, up in Mahwah, near the NY State line. Hence the name, lol.
