No where will you find free parking in areas you are asking of in short of risking car being towed either by town or owner of the business.
Cheapest parking you will find is renting a spot from a private owner of nearby condo, coop, or house. Even that is pretty fairly expensive in the areas you ask of. Cheapest one I saw so far was 150 bucks in Edgewater that was few blocks from bus stop in craiglist.
i mean, when you factor in the gas it takes you to drive to one of those towns to get on a cheaper bus, are you really saving anything? most towns only allow 4 hours for non-resident parking (like hoboken).
public transportation has gotten more expensive, but it's still a great deal.
Not to mention that as you get closer to these towns...more traffic you'll hit due to bridge/tunnel overflow. I live in Edgewater and I reverse commute to Parsippany so I pretty much see everyday how bad it cane be sometimes.
Traffic at times are no joke. I think yesterday there was 1 hour backup on GW so it ended up jamming up nearby routes like 46.
This applies to other towns like Hoboken and Jersey City. My god Jersey city is horrible...worse than Edgewater in my opinion.
I never understood all those people who parked in Secaucus before the residential parking went into effect. You get off the bus and into your car ,then sit on Route 3 for another hour or so in traffic. I'd rather stay on the bus or train and relax.
If there were free spots that were close enough to walk to the bus, then others would have taken them already.
