Places to live near RWJ University Hospital, New Brunswick (Highland Park: apartment, rent)

Looking for a safe place to live near RWJUH, New Brunswick.

I dont mind commuting upto an hour (but shorter the better). I can drive or commute by train, which is ok too.

Looking for an apartment (single or shared with roommates) rent around 1000. Basically a safe place, gated community, quiet, family oriented, something like that.

Will be travelling to Boston/Worcester, MA on some weekends (4-5 hour drive, i know) so an area suitable. Thanks for everything

Highland Park is the next town over, and is a really nice small town with a nice main street. Very quiet, very safe, and reasonable. I don't know about a gated community as I dont think they are particularly common in the general area. I seem to only recall seeing them in retirement communities but would love for others to chime in.
you could certainly live much further and have a much longer commute...but Highland Park would be my choice.
