I am starting a new job tomorrow in Parsippany, NJ, and I will be commuting there M-F 9am to 6pm from Lynbrook, NY (Long Island) When is the best time to leave my house so traffic doesnt exactly suck on the GWB. I was looking to leave long island at 6:45am latest.
6:45am is too late....you need to be at or over the bridge by then. Actually the morning is not going to be your major problem because you can leave super early. Going home at night will be your own personal nightmare I fear.
You will be spending 4 hours on a very good day for daily commute (5 hrs most times). We all make sacrifices to make paycheck, but this is borderline insanity.
I would not bother with the GeeDub on that commute myself, have done somewhat the reverse of that ride every day many years ago. Thinking LIE-BQE-WillyB- straight across Delancey one block left then right, out the Holland T- I-280 to Parsippany. That would be my pref most days. Minimum amount of traffic & tolls also. Escaping NY before NY wakes up and jams up is the trick. Traffic in mainland America going west isn't too bad the rest of the trip.
Depending on traffic in NYC that total trip could be about 45 mins to about 2 hours or so.
I usually avoid going across the Cross Bronx going to/from NY/NJ since in addition to NYC commuting traffic you have all the I-95 traffic going up/down the East Coast of the USA, New England, etc.
I work in Parsippany and commuted from Bayside and Astoria, NY for few weeks. It is frigging insane and I only did because I was waiting on my lease to kick in so I can move to NJ. Commute time is going to suck and there are lot of times when it's just jammed up for no reason. I now live in Edgewater so I see it daily.
I'd say prepare yourself for at least 4 hour commute...if it snows or rains and mix in accident, holidays... Forget it...you'll be stuck for hours.
Personally if you are single and have to take this job or have to work there. Consider looking into renting a cheapo room, tiny studio, or motel for weekdays and coming home for weekend. It won't cost much more than commuting but will save you much time. You are talking close to $20 in toll and few gallons of gas. Let's say 30 bucks a day so that's 150 a week x 4 week = $600 a month.
I've rented studios and single rooms for 800 easily in North NJ. It ain't gunna be pretty or nice but it sure saved me ton of time. I've even found places for 600 bucks but I wasn't willing to go that um cheap for my security sake.
You could also look into taking the LIRR to Penn Station & Penn to Newark. See if there's a bus out of Newark to your part of Parsippany. If it's going to be a loooong commute either way, at least you could sleep or get some work done

This is not a doable commute. Find another job or move to Parsippany.
Just thinking, you could possibly park a car at Harrison in one of the lots, take a NYC subway & PATH subway to Harrison and drive the easier part in NJ avoiding all the NYC bridges, tolls, tunnels.
Me, I would try the lower crosstown route first.
