South Brunswick to Clifton, NJ Commute? (Secaucus: garden, car, work)

I am preparing to do a 3 month work commute from South Brunswick to Clifton, NJ, which is about an hour.

Can anyone recommend any alternative (preferably less congested) routes for this commute besides taking Route 1 North to the Garden State Parkway?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

In my experience going north to Secaucus for several years from Route 18, the Turnpike to Route 3 West is usually quicker. You can try both routes and find out. The Parkway runs through Clifton but the Turnpike is quite close. At least if there's a problem on the bus/truck lanes you've got the car lanes and vice-versa. If Parkway backs up you're stuck
