I'm looking for a home in Glen Rock. We love the area, but we can't find anything that we like in our price range...to 600k. 3beds, 2baths, finished basement...
We just moved to Ridgewood (next door to Glen Rock). Don't pay too much attention to the listing price. I know it sounds crazy but that was our experience in Ridgewood. Oftentimes, you can go as much as $100K over your desired price and still get it within your range. Most sellers know that they will not get their asking price - they almost never do (in this market, anyway). Ask your realtor for a comp report for Glen Rock and look at the difference between asking price and the actual "sold" price. You'll see that most houses are sold below asking price.
I guess what I am trying to say is that if you see a house that you love but it's 50-70K above your desired price, just make a bid. You might be surprised.
Thanks...Why did you pick Ridgewood over Glen Rock? I love Glen Rock, but there aren't many homes for sale there... I'll keep the asking price in mind when searching!
I love Ridgewood's downtown. I also like that Ridgewood is a larger town which means that if we ever want to move to another house, there are more opportunities to move w/in Ridgewood, which means that our kids wouldn't necessarily have to move to another school.
Ridgewood is also more diverse. By diversity I mean that it has very modest areas (by Bergen County standards) and extremely expensive areas, which again gives you more choices now and in the future.
But overall, there isn't that much difference at all.
Keep looking. You are well in the price range of Glen Rock and Ridgewood. I agree I would do searches for up to 700k and go from there. Ridgewood and Glen Rock are very similar . Both wonderful towns .
I agree Ridgewood as a town probably has more low to high dollar houses, where as Glen Rock probably has a smaller range, but maybe(?) doesn't go as "high" as Ridgewood (2+ million?).
There was a 3/1/1 house we were looking at that was listed for $500 when we started looking. It recently sold for UNDER $400.
