I have just landed a job in Jersey City (near Newport center mall). What is the best way to commute from South Brunswick (NJ) to Jersey City?

I am told driving is definitely not the way to go because the Holland Tunnel traffic starts getting heavy at 7 AM in the morning and one has to take the last exit in NJ (just before Holland tunnel) to go to Jersey City.

I am told that there are not buses that go from 8A to Jersey City.

You could avoid the tunnel backups various ways. Either chance it as far as possible down the Skyway and jump off early or better take US Truck 1&9 over or catch something into Newark and take the PATH over.

Or get off the TPK extension on grand street. Although that looks pretty congested too some mornings.

There is no easy way into Jersey City. Experiment with some different routes by car. PATH is OK too. But the commute will suck either way. Sorry.

You can drive to Jersey Avenue in New Brunswick and take the NJT Train to Newark , then switch at Newark for the PATH to Newport.

I think this is the best mass transit option.

I forgot to add that Princeton JCT , and New Brunswick are probably full , leaving Jersey Avenue station open.

Actually, there are waiting lists for parking at both Princeton Junction and Jersey Ave. Parking is always available at any of the several parking decks in New Brunswick that are close to the NB train station.

there are buses that leave from Rt. 18 (east brunswick) and go to JC. you'll have to research if these routes are convenient to where you work. Check out the buses that leave from the Hilton Towers on 18and the other private lines at the Kinko's (eggers st & Rt. 18 intersection). the nj transit site has info on the private lines and what areas they service.

you may have to do a combination of bus/train and switch to light rail somewhere along the way.

You could drive to the Cheesequake service area on the GSP and get a commuter van that will take you to Newport Mall. If interested call Will @732-995-4761
