Freehold is fine, as is Colts Neck or Howell or Middletown or Wall or Tinton Falls. Find a nice apt complex live there for a year. Learn the area. then decide if u like the area, where you fit best and where u want to put down roots

One last thing don't get an apt more than 10-15 miles from where you work

Freehold Borough is NOT fine....I was born and raised there. I moved out 2 years ago and trust me, I would NOT live there if someone paid me. Drugs galore in Freehold, so be prepared...it has went downhill over the years.

Plainsboro is a nice area, so is Hightstown or East Windsor. The ride from Hightstown or East Windsor to Freehold is approx. 30 minutes, right down Rt. 33. You can check out Englishtown too.

I grew up in the town just north of Freehold Twp (Manalapan) and knew some people who were born and raised in the boro and never left. About three years ago this guy gave me the low down on it, saying it was really OK until a few years ago. Freehold Boro has had a huge turnover in recent years and is now tipping. 80% of it's population is illegals and the other 20% are long time residents trying to leave. There are many homeless people living on top of buildings.

I drove through there recently by the East Main St merge with Rt 79 and there was traffic backed up there like always, so I made a quick left down Center St and went through that little area. It looks BAD. Yes Freehold Boro is quickly becoming the next ghetto. With all the "insular", exclusively high-end landscapes of the surrounding towns, the poor in that general region have nowhere else to go.

Have to agree with the person who said Hightstown. If you want a similar "Main Street" atmosphere take a look there. Same sort of sketchy elements but not quite as bad.
