So the inevitable has happened and I'm going to have to get my wisdom tooth pull (or possibly all four) but I'm uninsured at the moment due to me being unemployed. I am absolutely terrified of anything relating to the dentist and would like a rec for a great dentist that won't charge me an arm and leg since I'll be paying out of pocket. Please help.

When I lived in NJ I used Dr. Johnson on Washington Ave. in Piscataway. He used to give me a 10% discount because I did not have Ins.

We used this dentist for emergency work (without insurance) and she was surprisingly affordable so we decided to switch to her: http://www.manvillefamilydental.com/index.html. She's an NYU graduate too. We used to pay our old dentist thousands (even with insurance).

Why not visit UMDNJ? They don't charge a lot and the student dentists are all supervised during the work they do. My dentist teaches there.

I used Franklin Dental in Franklin Park. He charges like 100 bucks for a wisdom tooth pull as long as it's not impacted. From what I understand a lot of dentists won't extract teeth themselves anymore. They send you to an oral surgeon

I hope everything works out for you- I was going to second what arica said...that lately, most dentists seem to refer you to oral surgeon for extractions and also to other specialty doctors (root canal, gums etc). I know my dentist does not do extractions or root canals. I recently had both lucky me by specialists for each. While it is less convenient, I had zero complicatons and was back at work within a few hours feeling ok. Someone else i work with has her dentist do all that stuff and is miserable and in pain for days. It might just be pain sensitivity but I suspect it might help having the "experts" do their things well. And, there probably is not much difference in price by who does it.
Just a suggestion it can't hurt to ask. good luck again!!

I thought about that but the thought of them being student dentists does not help my phobia one bit .
